On April 29, 2026, Space Command held a ribbon-cutting at Redstone Arsenal and announced operational control of a facility there.
That facility is for the Joint Intelligence Support Element (JISE)—described by Space Command as the first operational element of the headquarters transition. (spacecom.mil)
Space Command states the JISE is expected to be an 80-person team when the transition is complete.
Axios also reported the plan discussed at the ceremony: 80 personnel in the building by the end of 2026, with total Space Command personnel in Huntsville reaching 200 by the end of the year, and a long-term plan for 1,800 staff in Huntsville with headquarters completion expected around 2031. It means you should plan like a professional relocation:
- This is a multi-year move, not just a one-week move. Some teams will ramp in phases.
- Housing questions will be very “commute-first.” Contractors and civilians often start with access to Redstone + Research Park corridors.

- Tour two lanes: one newer community + one established pocket. This way, you’ll have options.
